Product Liability Claims

Our product liability solicitors provide specialised legal assistance and guidance for product liability compensation claims. When you buy a product, you have certain rights as a consumer. The companies that produce these products have an obligation to you, as a consumer, to design and manufacture safe products.  The product should be safe for you to use in the way it was designed to be used. Unfortunately, that is not always the case and people can be injured, sometimes seriously, by using defective products.

If you have been hurt as a result of a faulty product, then you may well be entitled to claim compensation for your suffering and the financial impact of your injury. Bringing a product liability claim will also highlight to the manufacturer the dangers of the product and may result in them recalling that product line, so saving others from being injured too.

What to look out for

Unfortunately, many different types of products can prove faulty and result in injury, but there are things you can do to help your claim.

Injuries or illness as a result of defective products or faulty goods can involve all manner of products, including, but not limited to household items, electrical goods, food items and even medical implants.

For instance, faulty product claims can include:

  • Electrical equipment which has caused shocks, burns or scalds
  • Food items containing glass or other non-organic, non-food material leading to sickness or injury
  • Beauty and pharmaceutical products that have caused rashes or skin damage
  • Furniture that causes skin reactions or rashes
  • Poorly designed or manufactured equipment that has sharp edges that result in cuts or moving parts that trap fingers

The resulting injuries from defective products can range from minor to serious, involving time off work and treatment.

If you have suffered an injury due to a defective product, it is helpful if you still have the receipt. If you do not have the receipt, it is useful if you have details of where and roughly when you bought the item.

If it's not dangerous to do so, keep hold of the product so you can show it as evidence in your claim. Also, take photographs of your injuries to show how you were affected.

If you did not require emergency medical treatment at hospital, make an appointment with your GP, to obtain appropriate medical treatement.

Generally, you will need to make a claim within three years of the injury. If you have been hurt by a faulty product, contact us to find out quickly if you have a compensation claim and get the process started straightaway.
