Ellen Hunter

A Solicitor in our specialist Private Client team, Ellen works alongside Partner Stephanie Pratt.

She advises individuals and families on a range of personal matters, from the drafting and preparation of Wills and Powers of Attorney, to care costs, tax planning and the Executry administration process in Scotland.

Ellen is well known for her prompt response and excellent attention to detail, which is appreciated by clients at what can often be a difficult time.

Rachel Murphy

Rachel is a second seat Trainee Solicitor in the Private Client team. She commenced her Training Contract in September 2024 and completed her first seat in Land & Rural Business.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Diploma in Professional Legal Practice from the University of Glasgow, and completed an LLM in International and European Law, with a specialisation in Human Rights Law from the University of Gent in Belgium.  

Katie Brown

Katie is a second seat Trainee Solicitor in the Private Client team. She joined Thorntons in September 2024 and completed her first seat in Personal Injury.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Diploma in Professional Legal Practice from the University of Dundee, and previously gained a Bachelor of Arts with Honors, in English studies and Spanish from the University of Stirling.

Rachael Hannah

Rachael is a second seat Trainee in the Private Client team. Rachael commenced her Training Contract in September 2024 and completed her first seat in Residential Conveyancing.

Prior to commencing her Training Contract in September 2024, Rachael has worked as a Conveyancing Paralegal in our busy Residential Property post settlement hub.

Rachael graduated with a First Class Scots and English Dual Qualifying LLB and Diploma in Professional Legal Practice with Merit from the University of Dundee.

Dean McCombie

Dean is a first second Trainee Solicitor in the Private Client team. He commenced his Training Contract in September 2024 and completed his first seat in Commercial Real Estate. 

He joined Thorntons in 2019 and has undertaken positions across the firm including, most recently, supervising the Client Welcome team. As a result of these previous roles, Dean has a good understanding that the right advice for each client’s individual needs can make all the difference. 

Sofia Renshaw

Working alongside Partners Graeme Dickson and Morna Coutts, Sofia is a Solicitor in our Edinburgh Private Client team.

Sofia advises a wide range of clients on Private Client matters including Wills, Powers of Attorney and Executries. She also had experience in residential conveyancing during her traineeship.

Sofia is very personable and friendly. She always strives to approach both her clients and work in this manner.

Before joining Thorntons, Sofia studied for her LLB (Hons) and DipPLP at the University of Edinburgh. She’s also a Notary Public.

Ailidh Hay

Working alongside Partner Stephanie Pratt, Ailidh advises clients on a wide range of matters including executry administration (both testate and intestate), the preparation of Wills and Powers of Attorney and the creation of trusts. She can also assist with Inheritance Tax (IHT) Planning and legal rights issues. Ailidh is particularly interested in executries with foreign aspects.

Graham Hill

Working alongside Partner, Chris Gardiner, Graham is a Solicitor in our Dundee Private Client team. He advises individuals and families on a range of Private Client matters including Executry administration, Wills, Powers of Attorney and legal rights issues.

Client care is very important to Graham. He is very client centred and always looks to make the legal process as clear and easy as possible.

Perry McEwan

Perry is a Solicitor in our Private Client team in Inverness.

Working alongside Magnus Mackay, Perry advises clients from all different backgrounds on the preparation of Wills, Powers of Attorney and Living Wills (Advance Directives).

Perry also has experience in Family Law and Litigation, specialising in divorce and child matters.

Perry prides herself in her ability to create strong and meaningful relationships with the clients she works with. She ensures she is approachable and understanding of each clients individual circumstances and legal needs.

Caroline Brown

Caroline is a Trainee Executry Manager in our Private Client team.

Working alongside Partner Susan Duff in Cupar, Caroline helps clients through the whole executry administration process from start to finish. She looks after the day-to-day administration of executry estates including assisting executors in winding up an estate and dealing with Inheritance Tax issues.

Caroline has over 20 years’ experience in the legal profession. She has previously worked in the fields of Business Law, Intellectual Property and Personal Injury.
