Thorntons invests in its teams amid strategic expansion

Full-service, independently owned and operated Scottish law firm Thorntons has announced 22 new promotions across its Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Perth, Inverness and St Andrews operations following a year of exceptional growth.

Promotions have been made across many of the firm’s key service and sector teams, further bolstering its specialist offerings.

The firm, which opened a new office in Glasgow a year ago and its first permanent office in Inverness in April of this year, now employs more than 500 people in Scotland, including 70 partners across its 14 offices.

The latest promotions at Thorntons include:

Tayside
Inverness
Edinburgh
Glasgow

These 22 promotions follow the announcement made last month that Jacqueline Moore, one of Scotland’s leading immigration solicitors, was promoted to partner at the firm.

Neil McWilliam recently promoted legal director in Dundee said “I am delighted to take he role of legal director in this round of promotions with Thorntons - a firm which I joined in 2016 as a solicitor and that has continuously supported me in achieving this position. Thorntons is a firm that truly recognises the efforts of its people in its own success, and I am pleased that my contribution to the firm has been recognised with this promotion.”

Lesley Larg, managing partner, Thorntons, said:

We’re extremely proud of all those we have promoted. It’s incredibly satisfying to recognise colleagues located across our locations and teams to further strengthen our full service offering for businesses, families and individuals.

We welcome the positive impact our newly promoted colleagues have had on the firm, and each is a great example of the outstanding career opportunities available at Thorntons.

Investing in people is a key priority for Thorntons, which offers high quality learning and development opportunities and industry-leading family-friendly policies including 26 weeks of full pay and 13 weeks of half pay for new mothers and colleagues who adopt, while co-parents can receive 12 weeks of paid leave.

Fully paid shared parental leave is also available and a new 12-week phase back option for anyone returning from maternity or adoption leave was recently introduced. The arrangements enable colleagues to work 50% of their time, over a 12-week period, while receiving full salary to ensure a smooth transition back to the workplace.
