During the summer of 2016 a mass public art trail took place around Dundee. The art trail, made up of Oor Wullie sculptures was organised in aid of The ARCHIE Foundation Tayside to raise funds for a children's operating theatre at Ninewells Hospital.
We are proud to have one of the Oor Wullie sculptures, "Oor Lilies" in our offices.
Aboot Oor Lilies
Designed and pained by artist Francis Boag, Oor Lilies was inspired by Monets paintings of water lilies. Francis has often painted the water lilies that grow in his garden pond. Francis and his wife Teresa are very proud of their lilies and both being from Dundee, obviously refer to them as ‘Oor lullies’ so the simple sound association of ‘Wullie’ and ‘lily’ was the spark for the idea.
The ARCHIE Foundation.
Every year The ARCHIE Foundation helps transform the healthcare of more than 175,000 sick children. In Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness and Elgin the charity has created, or is creating, world-class children’s healthcare facilities. These extend into local community community facilities and into the islands too.
In Tayside Children’s Hospital at Ninewells, the very hospital Oor Wullie himself must surely have used on more than one occasion, The ARCHIE Foundation are working hard to make a big difference to children’s surgery. In partnership with the incredible team of staff in the hospital the ARCHIE Foundation are supporting the creation of two brand new children's operating theatres.
