Gillian McDonald

Gillian is a Trust Manager based in our Dundee office, working as part of the Trust team with Supervising Partner Stephanie Pratt. She is involved in Trust management and administration, including all Trust compliance work, liaising with Trustees and beneficiaries, and ensuring Trusts meet their filing and reporting requirements including Trust Registration and FATCA/CRS. Gillian is also involved with winding up Trusts and Charity administration and submission of annual accounts to OSCR.

Thorntons charity Wills campaign raises £43,500 for vulnerable families and children

Children and families across Tayside, Fife and Edinburgh are benefiting from Thorntons’ latest charity wills initiative, which raised £43,500 for Radio Forth and Radio Tay’s Cash for Kids campaigns.

Every September Thorntons’ offices in Edinburgh, Bonnyrigg, Fife, Dundee, Perth and Angus waive their fees for those making wills, asking them to instead donate an equivalent sum to the charity.

The campaign has raised over £600,000 for Cash for Kids since it was established more than 27 years ago. 

Finlay Williamson

Working alongside Partners Morna Coutts, Graeme Dickson and Emma Horne, Finlay is a Solicitor in our specialilst Private Client team.

Finlay advises on a wide range of Private Client matters including Executries, Wills, Powers of Attorney, Trusts, Succession and Tax Planning. He acts for clients from all backgrounds including individuals, families and trustees. Finlay is particularly interested in executries and succession.

Senior appointment for Thorntons’ Inverness operation

Full-service law firm Thorntons has appointed a third partner to its new Inverness office. 

Private Client Partner, Magnus Mackay, joins Thorntons following its recent recruitment of 10 new Inverness team members from Wright, Johnston and Mackenzie (WJM).

Magnus Mackay

A key member of our specialist Private Client team in Inverness, Magnus assists individuals and their families in planning for the future.

He advises clients on a range of issues and planning matters including Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney and Inheritance Tax Planning. He has a particular interest in the use of Trusts in Inheritance Tax planning and protecting vulnerable beneficiaries.  He also assists Executors in the winding up of Estates and Trustees in the creation, administration and winding up of Trusts.

Harriet Grant

Harriet is a Solicitor in our Dundee Private Client team.  Working alongside Chris Gardiner, Harriet advises on a wide range of Private Client matters including executry administration, Wills and Powers of Attorney. She is particularly interested in elder care planning.

Before joining Thorntons, Harriet previously trained as an Adult Registered Nurse and predominantly worked within Acute Medicine for the Elderly. She graduated from Robert Gordon University with a First-Class Honours degree in Scots Law and also holds the Diploma in professional Legal Practice.

Louise Wilson

Louise is a Solicitor in our Private Client team.

Louise advises on a range of Private Client matters including Wills, Powers of Attorney, care home cost planning, legal rights issues and trusts. Louise acts for clients from all backgrounds including individuals, couples and families.

Louise strives to build strong, empathetic relationships with her clients to understand their individual needs. She is well known by her clients for delivering advice in a clear and concise manner.  

Maxine Chiverton

Working alongside Bruce Renfrew and Graham Lambert, Maxine is a Solicitor in our Private client team.

Covering Perth and the surrounding areas, Maxine acts for clients who require advice and assistance with their lifetime planning in terms of their Wills and Powers of Attorney. She specialises in Executry Administration and advises clients who require assistance following a bereavement.  She can assist on a wide range of matters including attending to Applications for Confirmation, Inheritance Tax Returns and settling estates with beneficiaries.

Local charities awarded share of £37,500 fundraising sum

Leading Scottish law firm, Thorntons annual charity wills campaign has raised £37,500 for Cash for Kids, helping to support vulnerable families and children across Falkirk, Edinburgh and the Lothians.  

Lauren McIntosh

Based in our St Andrews and Cupar offices, Lauren works with partners, Audrey Dishington and Susan Duff. She acts for a range of clients from across Fife who wish to protect their assets and carry out Inheritance tax or care cost planning for the benefit of their family and future generations. 

Lauren has a particular interest in estate administration and is undertaking additional qualifications to advise clients dealing with estates which contain foreign and non-domicile elements.
