Full-service law firm Thorntons has appointed a third partner to its new Inverness office.
Private Client Partner, Magnus Mackay, joins Thorntons following its recent recruitment of 10 new Inverness team members from Wright, Johnston and Mackenzie (WJM).
Also formerly of WJM where he was a Partner, Magnus brings 16 years of experience to the role and is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). His areas of expertise include the preparation of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, inheritance tax mitigation and succession planning for business owners.
Magnus is a native of the Black Isle and a graduate of the University of Aberdeen. He said: “I’m delighted to join Thorntons’ new Inverness operation. As a legal firm that is committed to the success of the communities it works in, Thorntons brings something new, fresh and dynamic to the city.
“Thorntons’ Inverness office will bring a variety of legal services under one roof and clients will also be able to benefit from the wider network of expertise in the firm.
“It’s exciting to join the firm as it establishes deeper roots in Inverness and the Highlands and grows its client base.”
Lesley Larg, Managing Partner at Thorntons, said: “It’s fantastic to welcome Magnus to Thorntons. He will further boost our Inverness team by bringing his expertise in helping clients review their personal affairs and plan for the future.
“We’ve enjoyed a healthy start to operations in Inverness and are looking forward to the year ahead.”
Thorntons, which already acts for clients in the north, including University of Highlands and Islands and Cabot Highlands, launched its first permanent Inverness-based operation in November 2023.
The Inverness practice will operate a full-service model offering a range of legal services, from private client work including wills, trusts and tax planning to residential property, to specialist commercial advice to business clients operating in the city’s most prominent sectors. These sectors include commercial real estate, agriculture, life sciences, energy and renewables, and hospitality.
The team is currently based in serviced office space as work is undertaken to fit out new modern premises within Beechwood Business Park with anticipated completion of Spring 2024.
