Charlotte Cockburn

Charlotte is a Senior Solicitor in our Intellectual Property team. She assists clients on a range of Intellectual Property matters including copyright issues, Data Protection and GDPR, commercial contracts, Trade Marks and IP and software licensing.

Before joining Thorntons, Charlotte worked in Private Practice and has varied experience in private client law, conveyancing and court work including criminal, family and child law. She has also previously worked in the public sector focusing on regulatory law.

Brand is crucial to any business owner. Name, logo, symbols, slogan – even colour – can be associated with a brand. It’s vital that assets such as these are protected with a trade mark which provides the legal right to stop others from using a brand that has been developed and invested in.

Katy Dow

Katy has specialisted in Intellectual Property since completing her Traineeship with the firm and qualifying as a Solicitor.

She advises individuals, businesses and public sector bodies on a wide range of Intellectual Property matters including commercialisation, licensing, the protection of confidential information and general commercial contracts. Katy has a particular interest in research and commercial collaborations and copyright law.

Katy strives to provide excellent client care and commercially focused advice. She is also a Notary Public.

Liam McMonagle

Dual qualified in Scots and English law

Liam is a highly experienced commercial lawyer whose practice covers corporate and commercial work with a particular focus on the technology, gambling and education sectors. His practice is a mix of advisory work, commercial transactions and dispute resolution.

Liam joined Thorntons in 2010 from Dundas & Wilson (now CMS) having previously worked in London for leading media firm Harbottle & Lewis.

Kirsty Stewart

Dual qualified Chartered Trade Mark Attorney
Accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Intellectual Property.

Kirsty is a Partner in the Intellectual Property, Technology and Media team and a specialist in trade mark and brand protection matters. Kirsty is also dual qualified as a Trade Mark Attorney and heads up Thorntons’ in house trade mark agency.
