Joanne Grimmond

Joanne is a Partner in our Residential Property team. She is also a Notary Public and TEP (a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) which is a leading global professional association for practitioners who help families plan for their futures).  

Joanne advises clients on all aspects of Scottish Residential property transactions. Her experience includes advising on purchases, sales, creation and discharge of securities, transfers of title, and private residential tenancies. She acts for a wide range of individuals and family clients including first time buyers, downsizers, those planning for retirement and property investors.

Joanne is also experienced in advising on the preparation of Wills, Powers of Attorney and Living Wills. Having completed her STEP Diploma in 2022, she has enhanced her knowledge on succession planning and the mitigation of inheritance tax in relation to heritable assets.

Throughout her career, Joanne has worked across Dundee, Edinburgh and Perth so she has a very good understanding of the local area. She is well known by her clients for being personable and pragmatic.

Prior to joining Thorntons, Joanne was a Director of the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce and a former Chair of the Dundee and Angus networking group ‘Women Ahead’. She was also previously the Secretary of the Faculty of Solicitors and Procurators in Perth.

Joanne was awarded the ‘Shining Star’ award at the Women Ahead Business Awards in 2011.
