Leading sports broadcaster Hazel Irvine and football legend Frank McAvennie have been announced as the headline speakers at one of Tayside’s longest running charity events.
The 24th annual Dundee Sportsman’s Dinner, which raises vital funds for local sports clubs in the area, will take place at the Invercarse Hotel on September 16.
The charity dinner, sponsored by local law firm Thorntons, Brewin Dolphin, DWK Office Solutions and Bank of Scotland, will once again be hosted by the renowned after-dinner personality Willie Allan.
Hazel Irvine, who leads the BBC’s golf and snooker coverage, will be joined by West Ham and Celtic legend Frank McAvennie in speaking at the event.
Frank said: “I’m looking forward to joining Hazel and Willie at what promises to be a top class fundraising event.
“Encouraging sports at a grass roots level is hugely important, and it is great to be able to help in any way I can”.
Gavin Garden, chair of the Dundee Sportsman’s Dinner organising committee, said: “The Dundee Sportsman’s Dinner is a fantastic occasion that everybody looks forward to.
“Once again, we can look forward to an excellent line-up of sports personalities and it gives me great pleasure to welcome both Hazel and Frank to this year’s event.
“With the continuing support of local businesses, the event has been able to raise a huge amount of money for local sports organisations over the years – but this year we are aiming to make it better than ever.”
Funding generated by the event is used to fund a wide range of trips, competitions, equipment and coaching for local sports clubs.
The dinner also recognises the achievements of local sports people. Awards are presented on the night to Local ‘International’ Sports Personality and the PS Ridgway Trophy for Young Local Sports Personality.
Tickets for the event are now on sale. More information is available on the dinner’s website www.dundeesportsmansdinner.co.uk
