Jacqueline Moore, one of Scotland’s leading immigration solicitors, has joined Thorntons employment and immigration team as the full-service law firm expands its practice.
An accredited specialist in Immigration Law by the Law Society of Scotland, and top ranked as an individual practitioner by Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners, Jacqueline Moore brings over 22 years of experience to the firm. She joins Thornton’s employment and immigration team led by Partner, Noele McClelland where she will work alongside immigration specialists Gurjit Pall, Legal Director and Louise Crichton, Senior Solicitor as part of the wider employment team to provide one-stop employment and immigration advice to businesses and individuals across Scotland.
Jacqueline brings extensive experience in supporting a range of organisations to use the immigration system to find solutions to their recruitment challenges. In addition, she has niche expertise in supporting businesses in the hospitality, IT and healthcare sectors to make immigration law work for them. Her support typically involves helping employers apply for a UK sponsor licence and, then once this is in place, using the licence to hire and retain non-British and non-Irish employees.
Jacqueline Moore, said: “At a time when businesses, particularly in the healthcare and hospitality industry, are struggling to recruit, employer sponsorship could unlock opportunities and it’s great to support businesses in navigating this often complex system. I’m looking forward to utilising my expertise to support both individual and corporate clients across Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee with Thorntons.”
As well as supporting with recruitment, Jacqueline’s extensive experience of dealing with the Home Office and technical knowledge of the Points-Based system means she can provide commercial and pragmatic advice to HR managers and business owners. Her expertise is designed to ensure businesses are compliant with immigration law, and avoid the risk of a civil or criminal penalty being issued by the Home Office. Compliance support can include mock audits, tailored training on Right to Work checks and supporting on corporate transactions. These checks areparticularly important in situations where there has been a change in ownership in respect of the entity holding the sponsor licence.
In addition to supporting businesses, Jacqueline has extensive experience of helping countless individuals and families make successful UK visa and British citizenship applications.
Jacqueline added: “I have been privileged to have been part of so many families’ UK immigration journeys across over 20 years and I look forward to helping more individuals and families at Thorntons. It is brilliant to be an immigration specialist at Thorntons given the firm’s commitment to exceptional levels of client care and the support that immigration clients can receive from other legal specialists at the firm.”
Colin Graham, chairperson, said: “We’re proud to be a forward looking and ambitious firm, and with the Glasgow expansion on the horizon, it’s a great time for Jacqueline to join and bolster our specialist immigration team.”
