Full-service law firm Thorntons has announced Paul Adams and John Smart as partners for its first office in Inverness alongside a further eight appointments.
The new team joins from Wright, Johnston and Mackenzie.
The firm, which already acts for clients in the north, including University of Highlands and Islands and Cabot Highlands, has launched its first permanent Inverness-based operation.
Headed up by lead partner Paul Adams, the 10-strong team, with more appointments to be announced, will initially work from serviced office space as work is done to fit out new modern premises within Beechwood Business Park ready for Spring 2024.
The new Inverness practice will operate a full-service legal model offering everything from private client services including wills, trusts, and tax planning, to providing specialist commercial advice to business clients operating in the city’s most prominent sectors. These sectors include commercial real estate, agriculture, life sciences, energy and renewables, and hospitality.
Both Paul Adams, who is experienced in planning law, and John Smart are commercial property partners. They will be joined by legal directors Yasmin Myles and Elisa Miller, paralegal Jennifer Callaghan and legal administrator Lucy Bird, all specialising in commercial real estate. Residential property associate Jenna Gallacher and residential conveyancing senior paralegal Hazel McGillivray also join Thorntons in Inverness alongside private client executry manager Anna MacLeod-Adams and trainee executry manager Krysty Steele.

Inverness is Thorntons’ second new office of the year after opening the doors to a new permanent location in Glasgow. It will also be the firm’s 13th location and its first in the Highlands, helping to significantly expand Thorntons’s geographical footprint as it seeks to become Scotland’s foremost independent law firm.
