A Scottish law firm is continuing its support of Arbroath’s biggest event of the year by sponsoring its flagship fundraiser.
Thorntons Solicitors is headline sponsor of this year’s Arbroath Relay for Life – a 24-hour event which raises money for Cancer Research UK.
The relay is part of a gala weekend which will take place at Arbroath Cricket Club from Friday 15 September through to Sunday 17 September.
The firm will also put forward a team to take on the challenge, and David Mathieson, a partner in Thorntons’ Arbroath office, will be leading the firm’s team this year.
David said: “We’re very proud to be involved in the event again this year. Cancer is such a big part of life for so many people now and as a business that’s a big part of the community in Arbroath, it’s important for us to support people living with the illness.
“The gala weekend helps to bring the community together and the relay is the centrepiece of the celebrations.
“We hope that this year’s event will be even bigger and better than ever before and will help us raise thousands of pounds for research into this horrible illness.”
Relay for Life is the culmination of a year-long team fundraising challenge which brings communities all over the UK together to beat cancer. Teams of family and friends fundraise for life-saving cancer research throughout the year and everyone unites for a 24-hour celebration, taking turns to walk around the track.
Over the last 11 years, the relay has raised around £900,000 and organisers are hoping to achieve the £1 million mark this year with help from Thorntons.
Ian Angus, chair of Arbroath Relay for Life "We would like to say a big thank you to Thorntons for its continued support this year. We look forward to working with the team again. With Thorntons’ generous support, we will strive to make this year’s event even better.
“Arbroath has lost too many of its sons and daughters to that awful disease. Our fundraising teams are helping to turn that around by funding research that is now helping save the lives of local people.
“A big part of the relay weekend is to celebrate our survivors and the progress being made in the detection and treatment of cancer.”
