Thorntons will host business briefings for private landlords in Dundee and St Andrews
With significant changes in recent years to the private rented sector in Scotland, landlords are being urged to attend a free seminar to swot up on how the new regime might affect their businesses.
The new legislation has changed key aspects of the way residential tenancies operate – and it’s crucial that private landlords are briefed so they know what to expect and can tailor their arrangements accordingly.
The free sessions will help attendees better understand what’s old, what’s new and what’s essential for private landlords to action.
Topics include the impact of the introduction of the Private Residential Tenancy and details of how civil cases relating to the private rented sector are now being handled since being transferred from the Sheriff Court to the First-Tier Tribunal for Scotland.
Gillian Buchanan, Partner at Thorntons Solicitors, will be hosting both events.
She said: “Our business briefings aim to provide practical advice and guidance for both landlords and letting agents.
“These particular sessions will look at how the new arrangements have been operating in practice and highlight further forthcoming changes as well as provide attendees with tools and knowledge required to ensure legal compliance.”
The 75 minute morning seminars, which kick off from 9am, will take place in Old Course Hotel, St Andrews on Wednesday, 6 November and Thorntons’ Yeaman Shore office in Dundee on Thursday, 7 November.
Attendees can expect to leave the seminars fully updated on whether to convert an existing Assured Tenancy to a Private Residential Tenancy, how the First-tier Tribunal is dealing with eviction applications, the relevancy of The Energy Efficiency Regulations 2019 for the private sector and an overview of succession planning for property portfolios.
