Thorntons Solicitors is strengthening its footprint in Edinburgh and status as one of the largest full service law firms in Scotland with new premises and a partner appointment.
Chris Phillips has recently joined Thorntons as a partner and a member of the employment law team in Edinburgh.
Living in Edinburgh all his life, Chris first became partner at Mackay Simon in 2000 and has more than 23 years’ experience. He is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association and Scottish Discrimination Lawyers Association and has been accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as an employment law specialist since 2005.
His areas of expertise include employment and discrimination law, professional regulatory law and administrative law linked to public inquiries.
In addition to his role with Thorntons, Chris is Chairman of Fife College Foundation and an external examiner in employment Law for the University of Dundee.
Chris said: “It’s an exciting period of growth for Thorntons in Edinburgh so I’m delighted to be joining the firm at this time and developing the employment law offering there.”
The firm will also move later this year from its current Melville Street base to larger offices in Citypoint, Haymarket.

Thorntons first opened in Edinburgh in 2004 providing a litigation only offering with a team of 3. The office now has more than 50 people providing individual and business clients with a full range of legal and estate agency services.
