Big-hearted ladies from one of Edinburgh’s leading legal and estate agency firms have already hit their ambitious four-figure fundraising target as they get ready to rough it under the stars in aid of a homeless charity.
The brave five-strong group from Thorntons in Melville Street will be facing freezing temperatures when they take part in Social Bite’s Sleep in the Park event on 9 December in Princes Street Gardens.
However, before they even get into their sleeping bags and attempt to stave off the cold for a challenging night in tough winter conditions, the ladies will be safe in the knowledge that they have already raised an impressive £3,000.
The group – including Stephanie Watson, Lauren Fettes, Michelle Adam, Kathleen-Erin Lawson and Emily Flett – feels the effort and discomfort will be more than worth it, and they now hope to even exceed their original fundraising target in the run-up to the event.
They believe that the crucial support of colleagues, family, and friends – not to mention 9,000 others taking part on the night – will spur them on to complete the challenge and help them make a significant contribution to Social Bite’s goal of ending homelessness in Scotland.
Thorntons – recently named Firm of the Year at the Law Awards of Scotland 2017 – is proud of the ladies’ determination to stick it out on 9 December and their drive to raise vital funds.
Chairman Colin Graham said: “We were excited to hear of the group’s plans and immediately threw our support behind them by asking our 10 offices to back their efforts with as many donations as they could muster.
“We also wish them well as they get ready to bed down in the biting cold in a week’s time. It’s sure to be a hard night for all of them, and we salute their bravery.
“Of course, while the five ladies will no doubt be uncomfortable and hugely exposed to the elements in Princes Street Gardens, it’s nothing compared to what Scotland’s homeless face night after night.
“Nevertheless, fantastic events like these can help to make a huge difference both in terms of awareness and raising funds in the search for meaningful solutions.”
Alan Mohan, Trustee of Social Bite, said: “Thorntons’ support for Sleep in the Park is incredible to see and is a perfect example of how the Scottish business community, and the general public, have come together to help us catalyse our movement to end homelessness in Scotland with over 7,000 people expected to attend.
“With their help, we’ve been able to see fundraising break the £2m mark, a number we expect to see rise all the way to the 9th of December.”
