Housing & Landlords | Covid19, Where are we now and what next for landlords?

Housing & Landlords | Covid19, Where are we now and what next for landlords?

In early April this year various temporary changes to existing landlord and tenant laws were introduced in response COVID19. The Coronavirus (Scotland) Act 2020 has now been extended to 31 March 2021 and some further changes have been made. The ‘errors in notices’ provisions are now also likely to become more relevant given that many landlords, tenants and letting agents are still unsure of the current legal position when dealing with eviction notices and tribunal hearings.

Dispute Resolution & Claims specialist, Gillian Buchanan hosted a short webinar where they discussed key considerations around the emergency legislative changes that limit landlord remedies as well as highlighting issues to be mindful of when serving Notices to Leave.

Topics covered included:

  • An update on the emergency measures introduced by the Coronavirus (Scotland) Act 2020 on 7 April 2020 and now extended to 31 March 2021;
  • An introduction to the “errors in notices” provisions also introduced by the 2020 Act;
  • Guidance on pitfalls to be aware of when serving Notices to Leave; and
  • A summary of recent notable caselaw relevant to landlords in the private rented sector.
