Leading Scottish law firm Thorntons has increased its breadth of expertise in family law after another one of its lawyers was recognised as a specialist by the Law Society of Scotland.
Elaine Sym, a Legal Director based at Thorntons’ office in Forfar, has become the fifth member of the firm’s family law team to become an accredited specialist in the sector.
She joins colleagues Sandra Sutherland, Angela Wipat, Cheryl Wallace and Lucy Metcalf in gaining the prestigious recognition from the Law Society of Scotland.
Thorntons chair Colin Graham said: “Being recognised by the Law Society of Scotland is a great accolade and we are very proud of Elaine’s achievement. The level of expertise across the family law team at Thorntons is one of the strongest in the sector and the geographic spread of our specialists across our network means we are able to give clients the best possible advice, regardless of where they live.”
Thorntons now has a total of 15 accredited specialists in sectors including agriculture, construction, family, personal injury and professional negligence.
The firm – which has a footprint of 13 offices stretching across Dundee, Perthshire, Angus, Fife, Edinburgh and Glasgow – also saw three conveyancing paralegals become accredited by the Law Society of Scotland. These are Dundee-based Lucy Rourke and Laura Franceschi as well as Arbroath-based Gillian Stewart.
“The legal world is changing with clients requiring true experts to deal with ever more complex matters,” Colin added. “As Lucy, Gillian and Laura’s accreditation shows, our breadth of specialist knowledge stretches right across our teams.”
